Deciding whether to quit your job or stick with it can be a daunting task, especially during times of uncertainty. There are several factors to consider when making this decision, including grit, how we feel about decision-making under uncertainty, and various psychological biases and obstacles.

Grit, or the ability to stick with things that are worthwhile, is a valuable trait to have. However, it can also be a hindrance if it leads you to remain in a job that is not fulfilling or worthwhile. It’s important to determine as soon as possible whether your job is worthwhile and to avoid “sticking to it at all costs”. That clarity, althought doesnt necesatrily leads to making change, can start you on that journey.

Second, its how you handle decision-making under uncertainty which can be challenging as the world is unpredictable when information is often hidden. It’s important to remember that we often don’t have all the facts when making decisions, but we can always change our minds with new information. When making this decision, it’s crucial to consider how much you know and what more can you find out to inform your decision. Whether its through your network or by “digging” for more informaiton, you can feel more comfortable when knowing enough to make the right decision. And there is another aspect, how well you can handle making decisions under uncertainty and when is information “good enough”.

There are also several obstacles to quitting effectively, including the fear of what others will think, loss aversion (letting go of something familiar to us), and a lack of clarity about your needs and goals. To overcome these obstacles, it’s important to be honest with yourself about the needs, conciously choose the right approahc to change and build your own safety net, as yours is different to someone else’s.
Sometimes a simple calculation of the likelihood of something working out or going wrong, combined with stepping back and reflecting on your vision, goals, needs and motivation, helps paint a helpful picture.

Its true that some people could be “bolder” than others yet, willing to take greater risks yet, for others is the careful view and consieration of things that could be the right approach. The ultimate goal – be yourself, meet your goals (life and work) and makes things thar really matter.
Deciding whether to quit your job or stick with it could be complex decision that is requires careful consideration. By being aware of yourself, common challenges that many face, thinking outload with a partner, or simply finding your own quite space for clarity, you can make the best decision for yourself. Remember, quitting is not a sign of failure; it’s a step towards creating a better future.

Hope is not a strategy.
